Paris St Germain 4, Manchester City 2
A damaging 4-2 defeat at Paris St Germain has left Manchester City in danger of exiting the Champions League.
For the first time in 115 games City let a 2 goal lead slip at the Parc des Princes as their hosts came back to deservedly win 4-2 after inflicting a 10th defeat of the season in all competitions on Manchester City to leave them below the play off pack in 25th.
Jack Grealish had replaced the sloppy Savinho at half time and scored City’s opening goal after 50 minutes – his first goal from open play since 2023.
And he then helped set up Erling Haaland for City’s second just three minutes later.
Crucially, though, Ruben Dias had also exited the fray at half time after asking to come off having just returned from a muscle injury.
But PSG, who had already had a goal ruled out for offside before half time took full advantage of City’s poor form and enforced change and were soon level through Ousmane Dembele with a 56th minute equaliser laid on by Bradley Barcola.
Barcola then went on to score the equaliser on the hour mark before João Neves put them into the lead after 78 minutes and Gonçalo Ramos’ injury time goal – confirmed by VAR after the ball ricocheted off Jose Gvardiol – put the icing on the cake of the French comeback.
It was fully deserved for PSG who had also had a forgettable Champions League campaign and still have to navigate their way past Stuttgart in their final game to make sure of qualification themselves.
Similarly, City have one final chance to qualify for the knockout round themselves – at home to Club Brugge.
Anything less than a win would see the former European Champions exit the new format competition at the group stage as their season staggers from one mishap to another.
