MOSSLEY 1, KIDSGROVE ATHLETIC 1
Mossley remain on the fringe of the play-off places in Pitching In Northern Premier League, West after being held at home by in-form Kidsgrove Athletic.
But a three-point haul against the Staffordshire side would have elevated the Lilywhites into the top five as they continue to punch above their weight.
“The lads were in the dressing disappointed to have dropped two points which shows our mentality and belief they can win,” explained manager David Fish.
It was a decent point given the blustery conditions and squalls which ruined the game as a spectacle as it was one of only a handful of clear-cut chances. for the 219 diehards who turned out.
Mossley, with Mason Fawns and Reece Webb-Foster still injured, are somewhat depleted and limited with striking options.
Kidsgrove, by contrast, have a strikeforce of Tom Pope and Matt Rhead with a combined aged of 79.
Rhead, still a threat aged 40, was in the Lincoln City side which as a non-league team reached the quarter finals of the FA Cup as well as starring for Mansfield Town.
Pope, who made 343 appearances for Port Vale and scored for them against Manchester City in the FA Cup at the Etihad, is the junior partner aged 39.
Their vast experience made them a threat, but fair play to centre backs Luke Barlow and Mateusz Kardacz for keeping them shackled.
Mossley, who climbed from seventh to sixth, edged the opening period when they were playing up the slop and into the wind which was surprising.
Kidsgrove also found it easier in the second period while Mossley struggled going downhill which is not normally the case.
Mossley carved out three decent chances before making the breakthrough in the 37th minute, the most glaring was the one which fell to Michael Brewster who blazed over from six yards when it looked as though he could not miss.
The goal stemmed from a dangerous burst down the left from Obua Mugalula who opened up the visiting defence before squaring a pass to Guilherme Baltazar who had a simple finish.
Kidsgrove edged the second period and were rewarded with an equalised midway through the period.
Mossley failed to clear a free kick which was hoisted into the penalty area and Kingsley Adu-Gyamfi fired home a low shot.
“I thought we were the better side in the first half and they edged the second,” said Fish.
“We came back strongly from the mauling on Saturday [3-0 loss at Stafford Rangers] and dealt well with their two experienced strikers and it was probably a fair result.”
