- Josh Stones joins Oldham Athletic on loan until January
- Stones to gain valuable match minutes in the National League on a short-term loan
- The forward temporarily links up with Oldham once again after an initial loan spell in 2023
Wigan Athletic’s Josh Stones has completed a short-term loan move to National League side Oldham Athletic until January 2.
Born in Leeds, Stones spent his formative years with Bradford City before progressing through the Academy at National League North outfit Guiseley.
He made his first-team breakthrough at Nethermoor Park in the 2021/22 campaign, most memorably netting the winning goal against Telford. During his time with Guiseley, Stones proudly represented his country, always leading by example as captain of the England Schoolboys U18s.
Latics beat several EFL and Scottish Premier League sides to secure his signature last summer, and the 19-year-old didn’t take long to make an impression at the DW Stadium. He made his professional debut against Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup, before becoming the U21s leading marksman, netting vital goals against Watford, Birmingham City and Peterborough United.
After spending the second half of the 2022/23 campaign on loan with Ross County, Stones returned to Latics in the summer, later signing a new three-year contract.
The forward has previously spent time at Boundary Park during the 2023/24 campaign, where he scored three goals in four games, but injury meant his time at Boundary Park was cut short.
He will now link up with Oldham once again on loan until January and reunite with fellow Latics’ player Kai Payne in a bid to gain valuable match minutes upon his return to the Brick Community Stadium in the New Year.
