Manchester United 7, Barnsley 0 (Carabao Cup 3rd Round)
There was a hat trick of braces for Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Christian Eriksen as Manchester United thrashed Barnsley in the Carabao Cup
Antony also scored a penalty against League One Barnsley in the Carabao Cup as the Reds had this game won shortly after half time and used the rest of the game to rack up a massive score against the Tykes – their biggest ever League Cup win.
Marcus Rashford scored his second goal in as many games after getting on the end of a big switch from Alejandro Garnacho after 16 minutes.
He then turned provider to set up Antony for a run on goal which was ended when goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina brought him down after failing to get the ball – the Brazilian rifled the spot kick into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 after 35 minutes.
And then Alejandro Garnacho scored two goals either side of half time – an opportunistic goal from close range when a defensive deflection off Marcus Rashford saw the ball break to him and a second when Christian Eriksen picked him out for a solo run from midfield to score.
And just for good measure Garnacho set up Rashford for United’s fifth goal of the night, a through ball which Rashford hit first time past Slonina.
Garnacho wasted a golden chance to hit a hat trick – ballooning a late effort over the bar.
But Christian Eriksen got a deserved goal of his own with 9 minutes to go when Garnacho released Bruno Fernandes into the left channel and he cut the ball back for the Danish midfielder to lift the ball past Slonina – his first United goal in over a year.
He followed up with his next United goal just four minutes later after he finished an intricate one touch move between Bruno Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee in the build up.

PLAYER RATINGS – Manchester United 7, Barnsley 0 (Carabao Cup 3rd Round)
Altay Bayindir: 6. In the action early on. Barely anything to do later on.
Diogo Dalot: 7. Back to his favoured right back role but inverted into midfield to help out and popped up in attack too with some pull backs and crosses.
Harry Maguire: 6. Had to be alert for early balls into the box.
Jonny Evans: 6. After early excitement had a calm night.
Toby Collyer: 6. Played at left back, not his usual role. Got physical when he needed to.
Manuel Ugarte: 7. Looked after midfield very well. Played the simple passes as midfield enforcer but also showed he could run with the ball as well. Got a gash on his knee when Luca Connell stood on him.
Casemiro: 7. More licence to roam after the introduction of Manuel Ugarte but also got stuck in.
Christian Eriksen: 8. Advanced midfield role, some silky skills in between the lines and superb range of passing. Deserved his goals at the end after he was twice assisted by Bruno Fernandes.
Antony: 7. Had a battle with Corey O’Keeffe. Won a penalty after drawing a foul from Gabriel Slonina and put it away himself. Curling effort from left tipped over the bar and had a couple of efforts saved.
Alejandro Garnacho: 9. Eyecatching runs up the left flank and his big switch from the left set up Marcus Rashford before he scored twice either side of half time – one a poacher’s finish and the other a solo run from his own half with just the keeper to beat. Ballooned a possible hat trick over the bar late on.
Marcus Rashford: 8. A chance to play upfront as striker. Early shot saved by Gabriel Slonina after mazy run into the area. A couple of hasty shots blocked by defenders but he calmed his nerves with an early goal after being released by Alejandro Garnacho. Had a long range free kick saved by Gabriel Slonina before Alejandro Garnacho set him up for a first time brace.
Bruno Fernandes (on for Manuel Ugarte, 63): 7. Cut the ball back twice for Christian Eriksen to get two deserved goals.
Joshua Zirkzee (on for Marcus Rashford, 63): 6. Relished a chance to score against League One opposition but settled for playing his part in the seventh goal.
Noussair Mazraoui (on for Diogo Dalot, 63): 6. Easy rest of the evening.
Matthijs de Ligt (on for Jonny Evans, 78): No time to mark.
Amad Diallo (on for Alejandro Garnacho, 84): No time to mark
