Crystal Palace 0, Manchester United 0
Manchester United were left frustrated at Crystal Palace after they failed to capitalise on their dominance at Selhurst Park.
Embed from Getty ImagesA 7-0 win at home against Barnsley on Tuesday looked like leading into a rousing victory at Selhurst Park but the Reds were thwarted by former goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
Alejandro Garnacho – who also hit the crossbar, Matthijs de Ligt, and Lisandro Martinez could not beat Henderson while Bruno Fernandes also clipped the woodwork for the Reds as they could not capitalise on a good first half performance in London.
Fernandes and Garnacho also went close in the second half but the Eagles could have won the game but saw Eddie Nketiah’s double chance tipped away by Andre Onana who got up to immediately deal with the rebound.
Eberechi Eze had the clearest chances for United’s hosts but somehow contrived to twice miss the target.
And United arguably got away with a particularly questionable lunge by Lisandro Martinez who went in two footed on Daichi Kamada but did not make contact with his very rash aerial challenge – VAR somehow not see fit to ask the referee to review it.
United can at least look forward to a welcome return from injury for Rasmus Hojlund – a bonus as Joshua Zirkzee didn’t get much joy out of the Palace defence.
But question marks were raised at the absence of Marcus Rashford – his place in the side was taken by Garnacho with Zirkzee up front only relieved by the England man after an hour of the contest.
