Phil Foden and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw have been named PFA Player of the Year award winners for the 2023/24 season.
Their latest personal accolades follow the Football Writers’ Association’s Footballers of the Year and Player of the Season in their respective leagues for both players as following exceptional campaigns.
Foden was also named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year alongside teammates Rodri, Erling Haaland and Kyle Walker.
And Six Manchester City Women’s players joined Shaw in the PFA Women’s Super League Team of the Year with Yui Hasegawa, Alex Greenwood, Lauren Hemp, Khiara Keating and Laia Aleixandri all named.
Foden said: “To win this award is something very special and it is one that I am very proud of and grateful for.
“To be recognised this way by your fellow professionals means everything and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.
“I also want to pay special thanks to Pep, the City coaches and all my teammates as they help me to try and get better every single day.
“I’d also like to congratulate Kyle, Rodri and Erling on being voted into the PFA Team of the Year as it’s great to see their amazing quality recognised in such a way.
“Last season was another very special one for everyone at the Club but now all our focus is concentrated on trying to achieve more success this term.”
Shaw said: “I am both happy and proud to have received this award – to be recognised in such a way by my peers is a very special honour.
“I also want to thank my teammates and the entire coaching staff because without them this wouldn’t be possible.
“I’d also like to congratulate all my fellow nominees who are such amazing players. To have been voted the Player of the Year means a lot.”
Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “Everyone here is so thrilled to see Phil win this award.
“To have your fellow professionals recognise you in such a way is very special.
“Phil embodies everything we stand for at Manchester City.
“He is a supremely talented player but is someone who always strives to seek to improve and he is a very humble guy who is hugely popular throughout the Club. We are all very proud of him.
“Last season was another memorable and historic one for the Club and it is very special and gratifying for us all to see four of our players recognised this way.
“It is one of the biggest honours you can receive to be selected by your fellow professionals.
Once again, the whole squad did an incredible job and it’s another very proud moment for the Club to have four players named in the Team of the Year.”
Managing Director of Manchester City Women Charlotte O’Neill also added: “We are all delighted that Bunny has been voted the Players’ Player of the Year.
“Her goalscoring record throughout last season was remarkable.
“But her influence, work rate and example all over the pitch alongside her desire to keep improving have been equally important in helping inspire everyone at the Club.
“We are all very proud to see her win this special award.
“It’s a source of immense pride for everyone at the Club to have six players be recognised in such a way.
“Bunny, Yui, Lauren, Khiara, Alex and Laia all played a major role in what we achieved last season and to be recognised by their peers in such a way says everything about their contributions.”
