Brazil winger Savinho has become Manchester City’s first signing of the summer after joining the club from ESTAC Troyes.
The Brazilian international already have seven caps to his name at the age of just 20 and signed a five year deal to stay at the Etihad Stadium with the men’s team until 2029.
Savinho started his career with Atletico Mineiro after arriving at City’s City Football Group sister club Troyes was initially loaned out to PSV Eindhoven after he first arrived in Europe.
He spent last season on loan with Girona (another CFG sister club) in La Liga where he scored 11 goals and assisted 10 more in helping the Spanish club secure UEFA Champions League football for the first time in their history.
After featuring for Brazil in this summer’s Copa America he joined City in a deal believed to be worth £30.8m and has been handed the number 26 shirt most recently worn by Riyad Mahrez.
Savinho promises to bring add pacy creative wing play to City long list of options for the first team – mainly cutting inside from the right on his favoured left foot – like Mahrez – but with the versatility to be able to play in a variety of attacking positions.
Savinho said: “I’m so happy to be joining Manchester City, the Premier League champions and Club World Cup winners.
“Everyone knows they are the best team in the world right now, so to be here is very exciting for me.
“I’m excited about the chance to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest coaches ever, and someone I know will help me improve even more.
“I had an amazing time in Spain and I’m looking forward to a new challenge of playing in the Premier League and alongside some of the best players in the world.
“I can’t wait to meet the fans and my new team-mates and hopefully be a part of bringing more success to City.”
Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “Savinho is a very exciting player and I think the City fans are really going to enjoy watching him.
“What he achieved last season at Girona was remarkable and he is already a full Brazil international.
“He has a big role to play for Manchester City this season and beyond.
“We are totally confident in his ability. He is still young and has the potential to become even better, and everyone knows that Pep is the best at helping players develop even further.
“But he has already shown his huge quality and technical ability and is an exciting addition to our attacking area.”
