Manchester City completed a historic treble after lifting the Champions League at the Ataturk Stadium and announced an open-top bus parade.
Beating Inter Milan 1-0 in the final secured City’s first ever UEFA Champions League title for the club having already won the Premier League and FA Cup this season.
City manager Pep Guardiola became the first men’s team manager to ever complete a Treble with two separate clubs, 14 years after achieving the same feat with Barcelona – following his 300th win with City.
Starting from July last year with the FA Community Shield curtain-raiser City competed in a further 60 games in four competitions with an unprecedented break in the middle of the season for a World Cup in which 16 of City’s squad competed.
The season ended with victory in the Premier League and a a win over Manchester United in the FA Cup final followed by a trip to Istanbul where City competed the Treble at the Ataturk Stadium against Inter Milan.
The squad will travel back to Manchester on Sunday afternoon, flying on a unique Club-liveried Etihad Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
And there will follow a chance for City fans to take part in a celebration of the historic achievement with an open-top bus parade through Manchester City Centre on Monday 12 June.
Guardiola, his players and his backroom staff will depart from Tonman Street, Deansgate, at approximately 6:30pm and travel to St Mary’s Gate. The parade will then travel through Cross Street and King Street, before finishing on Princess Street where a live stage show will take place.
Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan said:
“This is a really proud moment for everyone at this football club. We work so hard every single day, and we have wanted to win this trophy for so long.
“The Champions League is a beautiful competition, and we are all incredibly happy to have won.
“This team deserves the highest recognition and winning the Champions League elevates us to the very top of the game.
“And to win the Treble is something amazing. It is the ultimate achievement for any club team, and we have done it.
It reflects the quality we have in our squad, but it also shows how dedicated we are.
“I want to thank the Manchester City fans for their support this season.
“I can honestly say that we could not have done this without them. They have been amazing, and they deserve this moment.”
