MAN CITY U19 1, SEVILLA U19 0
Table-topping Manchester City completed UEFA Youth League, Group G campaign unbeaten with victory against Spanish side Sevilla at the Academy Stadium.
Four wins and two draws from their six group games gave City a commanding seven-point lead over FC Copenhagen who still have one match to play.
It was a dead rubber for both sides as Sevilla were unable to progress, and that was reflected in a lacklustre match which nothing at stake.
The only surprise for a match lacking in intensity was eight bookings, two picked up in stoppage time by Alvara Diaz Garmendi.
It rounded off a miserable afternoon for the defender who put through his own goal for the game’s defining moment.
That came in first half stoppage time when Garmandi sliced an Ezra Carrington cross into the roof of his own net.
Initially the goal was given to City’s 17-year-old striker William Dickson who won the Under-18 Premier League title last season but taken away when UEFA viewed replays.
It was the only meaningful chance of the opening period, and the second half was scarcely any better.
City had a great chance to double their lead midway through the second period when Josh Adam’s 25-yard drive brought fine flying save from goalkeeper Ivan Morales Roldan.
