PLAYER RATINGS – Manchester United 2, Tottenham 0
David De Gea: 7. A rare virtual spectator in the first half and saved from Harry Kane in the second half although the England captain was offside.
Diogo Dalot: 8. Thrashed a shot into Eric Dier’s face at the end of a frenetic period of intermittent attacking in which he did his bit going forward. Didn’t face too much trouble doing the other way and got the ball back in the face from Harry Kane later for his troubles.
Raphael Varane: 7. Looked after what few chances Spurs had to breach the United back line.
Lisandro Martinez: 7. Early clearance with his head. Comfortable night, muscled Heung-min Son off the ball as they went to try and pull one back.
Luke Shaw: 7. Solid defensively and not afraid to have a pot shot. Had one saved by Hugo Lloris.
Casemiro: 7. Sat deep to allow his partner Fred the freedom to attack. Also tried a long range pot shot which only just missed the target with Lloris rooted. Standing ovation when he was replaced by Christian Eriksen.
Fred: 9. Hassled Spurs all night from a higher midfield position – had a shot tipped over and looked comfortable passing the ball around including a great through ball for Marcus Rashford. Scored a deflected but deserved goal early in the second half and set up a second for Bruno Fernandes after his shot was blocked.
Antony: 7. Plenty of tricks and skill. Long range effort spilled by Hugo Lloris and hit the post not long afterwards.
Bruno Fernandes: 9. Improved massively after a slow start. Good work on set pieces and had a chance tipped away by Hugo Lloris but also wasteful. He got a goal in the second half after thrashing home the loose ball after Fred’s shot was blocked as his chance creation continued. A third goal for United was chalked off as he was offside.
Jadon Sancho: 7. Hard working down the left. Squared the ball for Fred’s goal.
Marcus Rashford: 8. Looked dangerous and had four great chances saved by Hugo Lloris.
Scott McTominay (on for Antony, 76): no time to mark.
Anthony Elanga (on for Jadon Sancho, 87): no time to mark
Christian Eriksen (on for Casemiro, 87): no time to mark
