PLAYER RATINGS – Manchester City 5, FC Copenhagen 0
Ederson: 6. Not much to do.
Joao Cancelo: 8. Put in good crosses from the right and Erling Haaland profited. Rested in the second half.
Ruben Dias: 7. Quiet evening. On his way back to fitness.
Aymeric Laporte: 7. Solid night. One mistake allowed Paul Mukairu a run on goal.
Sergio Gomez: 8. Showed off some spectacular long range shots. One was palmed away by Kamil Grabara but Erling Haaland tapped in the rebound. And he forced a bizarre own goal when his rasping drive came off Denis Vavro and David Khocholava for an own goal. Mistake allowed Paul Mukairu Copenhagen’s first shot on goal after 75 minutes.
Ilkay Gundogan: 8. Great link play in midfield as the fulcrum. Quietly immense game.
Bernardo Silva: 8. Had an early shot come off the post and blazed over as he flitted between midfield and attack.
Riyad Mahrez: 8. Playing into some form, setting up several good chances and celebrated his 200th appearance for City with a spot kick for City’s fourth goal.
Julian Alvarez: 8. Enthusiastic pressing up front kept the Copenhagen defence on edge and hit the post. Got his richly deserved goal after getting on the end of a Riyad Mahrez cross to score City’s 5th.
Jack Grealish: 8. Another good game. Encouraged to run at the defence, and was twice denied by Kamil Grabara and had shots wide and deflected. Great run from midfield ended with Julian Alvarez goal and deserved a goal of his own – egged on by the Etihad crowd.
Erling Haaland: 8. Shanked an early effort but that only made him mad so he opened the scoring after 7 minutes, and had a header and another shot saved before tucking away the loose ball for his second. Not bad for 45 minutes work.
Cole Palmer (on for Erling Haaland, 46): 6. Fitted well into central midfield and showed some good footwork and even forced a save from Kamil Grabara.
Rico Lewis (on for Joao Cancelo, 57): 6. Slotted in at right back – was tested by Paul Mukairu as City tried to keep a clean sheet – he blocked Mukairu’s shot.
Josh Wilson-Esbrand (on for Bernardo Silva, 67): 6. On at left back, allowing Sergio Gomez to go into midfield.
