Riyad Mahrez has signed a two year contract extension which will see him stay with Manchester City until June 2025.
The popular Algerian winger, 31, joined from Leicester City in the summer of 2018 and, like Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling, was entering the final year of his contract.
In four trophy laden seasons with the club under manager Pep Guardiola, Mahrez has helped City land three Premier League titles, three League Cups, and an FA Cup.
He also helped the club reach the Champions League final for the first time.
Mahrez will be able to add to his tally of 189 appearances with 63 goals and 45 assists after signing the extended deal in the wake of the departures of Jesus and Sterling to Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.
In the meantime City have signed Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Kalvin Phillips, and Stefan Ortega Moreno.
And there may be further transfer activity for City as rumours of a departure for Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal continued while a deal for Nathan Ake to join Chelsea seems to have evaporated after the Blues signed Kalidou Koulibaly.
It is believed that if the popular Ukrainian leaves the club then City would move to replace him with a left back – with Brighton’s Marc Cucurella still in the frame despite Brighton reporting no contact had been made.
Mahrez said: “I’m very happy to sign the new deal.
“I have enjoyed every single minute of my time here. It’s a pleasure to be part of such an incredible Club.
“To have helped us achieve the success we have enjoyed in the past four seasons has been unforgettable and made us all hungry to look to achieve even more.
“I would also like to thank Pep, Txiki and the coaching staff, both for the way they have helped me to develop as a player and for pushing me to continue to improve.
“Now I just want to try and play my part in helping us be successful next season and beyond.”
Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “Riyad has played a major part in our success in the four years since he joined us, and we are all delighted he has agreed this new deal.
“He has brought so much to the Club with his skill, talent, commitment, and desire to win evident from the moment he first arrived.
“I also know that Pep and the coaching staff relish working with Riyad.
“He is one of the most exciting wingers operating in the game and we are all very excited to know he will be part of our ongoing drive to try and achieve more success.”
