CHEADLE HEATH NOMADS 0, STOCKPORT TOWN 7
It was a night to remember for Stockport Town and one to forget for Cheadle Heath Nomads in this one-sided North West Counties League, first division south derby.
Nomads, who three days earlier had walloped fellow mid-table side Cammel Laird 1907 6-0, were on the wrong end of a brutal beating.
And new player-manager Paul Turnbull’s dream start to the job continued as he made it two wins out of two since taking charge at Stockport Sports Village.
Turnbull, the former Stockport County and Macclesfield Town favourite, sat out this one after picking up a knock, but watched on as his side produced a ruthless display to leapfrog Nomads into eighth place.
Three goals to the good in the first quarter of the game, Town never eased up and were relentless from start to finish.
Turnbull, who had seven of the academy players he coaches at parent club Stockport County in his matchday 16, said: “Our mindset is to work hard off the ball and then we will be rewarded on the ball.
“Out of possession we were outstanding, and I told the lads to win the game in the first 25/30 minutes which we did.”
Town played with a youthful exuberance, great energy and they also had an eye for goal.
“We have a tough game against Wythenshawe Amateurs on Saturday, but the way we are playing we have no fear of anyone.”
Nomads, who won 3-2 at Town earlier in the season having been 2-0 down, were up against it from the start as Town could have been two ahead before they made the breakthrough in the 16th minute.
Earlier Aiden Butterworth, who has been signed on dual forms from Hyde United where he was a member of their successful youth team, forced a fabulous save from goalkeeper Adam Rigby after only 34 seconds and then saw another goalbound effort blocked.
Butterworth, a threat throughout down the left, slipped a pass to academy player Keith Banda who found the net from the tightest of angles.
It was soon 2-0 from a quickly taken free kick as Tobias Green, a midfielder with a prosthetic arm, surged forward to score with a terrific drive.
Nomads then conceded a penalty for an unnecessary challenge on Green near the by-line as striker Michael Elstone, once of Fulham, Curzon Ashtion and Stockport County, slotted home the spot kick as Town were 3-0 ahead inside 24 minutes.
Town had to wait until nine minutes after the restart before adding their fourth, a terrific Jamie Walsh strike from the edge of the box.
The fifth and sixth goals came within the space of three minutes mid-half.
Banda, who is aged 17, scored his second of the game sweeping home a low cross from the left.
Butterworth, also 17, then added the goal he richly deserved, and what a strike it was as he cut in from the left before firing high into the far corner of the net.
Substitute Jayden Major added the seventh goal in the 88th minute from a three-versus-three break.
Left-back Will Calligan burst down the wing before delivering a sublime cross on to the head of Major who could not miss from inside the six-yard box to round off a magical performance from the visitors.
