Manchester City have signed Kayky, a teenage Brazilian forward hyped up as ‘the next Neymar’ from Fluminese.
Left footed attacker Kayky plays predominantly on the right flank – a position which is currently occupied by Riyad Mahrez for the Premier League champions elect.
City made a statement on social media which confirmed the deal:
It said: “We are delighted to confirm we have reached an agreement with Fluminese regarding the future transfer of Kayky.
“The teenage forward will remain with Fluminese until the end of the Brazilian season.”
The Brazilian is still only 17 (he will turn 18 in May) and is expected to join the club at the end of the year and could be involved in the EDS U23 team although he could also be loaned out to an City Football Group team when he first arrives.
He will follow fellow young Brazilian Gabriel Jesus who also moved to City from Palmeiras to train under Pep Guardiola after also arriving during the winter after the Brazilian season ended.
Kayky has signed a five-year deal for a fee believed to be in the region of £9m with addons reportedly including a 20% sell-on clause.
City were also linked with Kayky’s Fluminese team mate, Metinho, who turned 18 today.
Metinho is a defensive midfielder although City already have highly rated Belgian midfielder Romeo Lavia, 17, who has shown great promise in the EDS team who won the PL2 title this week for the first time.
And with Sergio Aguero confirmed to be leaving, with Fernandinho also coming to the end of his contract this summer, and Mahrez linked with moves away from the Etihad there could be room for some of those players to be promoted to first team action after the summer if Guardiola embarks on the expected rebuilding of the team.
