Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign promising Peruvian right back Kluiverth Aguilar from Alianza Lima to boost their youth options.
Aguilar, 16, is the latest right back to sign for the club but will stay with Alianza until he turns 18 in May 2021 before travelling to Manchester.
He is ineligible for a work permit and is likely to be initially farmed out to one of City Football Group’s other clubs such as Girona.
Aguilar has already made his first team debut for Alianza – last November – after being picked by Peru for the South American Under-17 Championships earlier in 2019 at the age of 15.
He is not the only right back to have signed for City, with Brazilian Yan Couto, 17, joining from Coritiba FC in July after signing a five-year deal.
Couto had already won 13 caps for his country at Under-17 level and was part of the Brazil team that won the Under-17s World Cup last November – a tournament in which he created more chances than any other defender.
Couto’s forthcoming arrival will help plug a gap at right back where City’s EDS team have been lacking numbers at right back since the departure of Jeremie Frimpong last summer.
Frimpong left for Celtic in the summer of 2019 and City had been seeking reinforcements in their youth ranks in that position.
City’s senior first team right backs have been under the spotlight recently with the unsettled Joao Cancelo linked with a move away from the Etihad after failing to usurp Kyle Walker.
The Portuguese right back, 25, has been linked with swap deals involving Barcelona’s Nelson Semedo or a number of Inter Milan players including Milan Skriniar and Lautaro Martinez.
Walker, 29, reportedly earned the ire of City boss Pep Guardiola after he became involved in a tabloid newspaper scandal, allegedly breaking Corona Virus pandemic lockdown rules to host a sex party.
