WIDNES 0, MOSSLEY 0
Mossley are back in the top 10 in the BetVictor Northern Premier League’s north west division after collecting a hard-earned point at Widnes.
The Lilywhites extended their unbeaten run to three games in which they have picked up seven points from a possible nine.
But they still have not won on the road in the league from 10 attempts – this was only the second point picked up on their travels.
Dave Wild, who lost his assistant Paul Phillips on the eve of the match when he was appointed Matlock Town manager, had new signings Sam Kilner and Szymon Czubik on the bench.
Midfielder Kilner has been loaned from Buxton and Czubik borrowed from Stockport County for a second time.
Captain Andy Keogh and Ryan Brooke had early chances for Mossley and later Ben Halfacre’s shot was deflected into the side netting, but Widnes had the better of the first-half openings.
James Murray was twice denied in the first period by superb saves from Theo Roberts while he had another effort deflected narrowly wide.
Mossley also lost central defender Declan Evans after half an hour through concussion after he took a blow to the head and complained of feeling sick.
The Lilywhites were unlucky not to score on the hour when Kayde Coppin headed narrowly over.
Mossley were fortunate not to fall behind when Kevin Towey burst clear and rounded Roberts only to lose his footing on the 4G artificial pitch as he was about to shoot.
The Lilywhites finished by far the stronger side as substitute Czubik forced a brilliant instinctive reflex save from goalkeeper Tom Scott who stuck out a hand to divert his shot to safety.
Then in stoppage time overlapping left back Dieter Downey shot narrowly wide.
