Scottish international midfielder Caroline Weir has signed a two-year contract extension to stay with Manchester City until the summer of 2022.
Weir, 24, joined City in the summer of 2018 from Liverpool where she enjoyed a two-and-a-half year spell and won the Player of the Year award for the Reds in 2017.
In her first season with City, she lifted the Women’s FA Cup and Continental Cup, earning the Player of the Match accolade in the final of the latter.
The Scottish international has picked up 68 caps and nine goals since her international debut in 2013.
She also scored the only goal in the inaugural Women’s Super League Manchester derby on September 7, 2019 and has scored eight goals in all so far this term.
Speaking about her contract extension, Weir said: “I’m delighted to have signed a new deal.
“I’ve had a really enjoyable first 18 months and I’m really pleased to have extended my stay here.
“It was definitely an easy decision and I can’t wait for the next two years.
“I would like to think I’ve improved a lot.
“It’s a great Club and it really tests you, taking you out of your comfort zone.
“There’s a pressure to improve and a lot of expectation to win every game and win trophies, which has improved my mindset.
“I love Manchester – I love the city – and from day one, I’ve felt at home here.
“It’s so welcoming and friendly and I’m very settled here.
“I’m looking forward to staying longer, and hopefully, we can continue to go out and compete for trophies.”
Head of Women’s Football Gavin Makel added: “Since joining the Club, Caroline has proven in her performances that she is a top-class player and has the ability to develop even further.
“She is highly regarded within the Club and I am delighted that she will continue her journey with us here at Manchester City.”
