Josh King fired Bournemouth to victory against a lacklustre Manchester United side to end their three match winning streak.
Embed from Getty ImagesIt was a case of two steps forward and one back as United once again looked bereft of ideas against a Bournemouth side that made the most of the awful weather conditions on the south coast.
And former United trainee King emulated his winning hit from 2015 by doing it again nearly four years later.
King scored just before half time, chesting down Adam Smith’s cross into the box, edging out Aaron Wan-Bissaka with a neat turn before volleying through David De Gea’s legs.
Mason Greenwood, on as a substitute, hit the post soon after coming on late in the match for United but in truth the Cherries had the better chances with Harry Wilson coming close twice after the break.
Without a creative midfielder to pull the strings, the Reds were reduced to hopeful hits from Greenwood, Fred and Scott McTominay.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had named the same side that had won at Norwich and much was made of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial playing in the same side before the game but both drew a blank.
Defeat to Bournemouth made the Reds look every bit the midtable side they have been playing like much of the time this season as they never looked capable of scoring once, let alone twice to beat their hosts.
