South Korean international forward Lee Geum-min has become the latest player to sign for Manchester City’s women’s team ahead of the new WSL season.
Lee, 25, joins from WK League club Gyeongju KHNP on a two-year deal and will take the number 17 shirt which was vacated by Nikita Parris who left to join Lyon.
Lee began her club career with Hyundai Info-Tech HS and Ulsan College before signing for Seoul in 2015 – scoring 26 goals in 57 appearances before moving on to Gyeongju KHNP where she scored six goals in jury ten appearances.
Lee has an impressive international record, helping her country to the 2009 AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship, a 2010 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, and a 2013 AFC U19 Women’s Championship.
She has 16 goals for her country since her senior debut in 2013 and played in the Women’s World Cup in France in the summer, providing an assist for South Korea’s first goal at the tournament.
Commenting on her signing, Lee said:
“I’m very honoured to be here and excited to join this team.
“Manchester City – the name itself – is very attractive to me and I want to experience the English league.
“I know there are many good teams in the English league and many good players. I know from my own experience that they are strong, fast and very technical.
“To my teammates, my coaches, my manager, the fans and everyone involved, I want to be remembered as a good player.
“I will do my best to impress them and have a positive impact.”
City struggled to break down other WSL sides on occasion last season
Nick Cushing, the City manager, added:
“We watched South Korea in the World Cup and we were really impressed by Geum-min and her ability to go one-v-one against players in the attacking third and to create chances and score goals.
“She’s not only a good player but she has a lot of potential to improve and grow.
“We think we can help her to do that here at Manchester City.”
