DENTON TOWN 0, MOSSLEY 6.
Mossley hit Denton Town for six in their second pre-season friendly with former Oldham Athletic striker Ryan Brooke scoring two of their goals.
The fact three divisions separated the two teams in the non-league pyramid was glaringly obvious as Mossley were a class above their Cheshire League opponents.
It was a good day for new signing Brooke who scored twice, his first goals for the club, and Ben Halfacre also bagged a double.
There were also goals for last season’s top scorer Max Leonard and 17-year-old academy player Dylan Fitzgerald.
Mossley, who had five trialists in their 15-man squad, were without seven regular squad players.
Striker Mike Fish and midfielders Nicky Platt and Godwin Abadaki and left back Dieter Downey were injured while defenders Declan Evans and Stephen Mason were at weddings and goalkeeper Josh Ollerenshaw on Army duties in Africa.
Trialist left-back Ben Woods provided the crosses for the opening two goals from Leonard and Halfacre while Brooke slotted home a third shortly before half time.
Halfacre added a fourth with a penalty early in the second period, Fitzgerald set up Brooke for a brilliantly worked fifth and Astley Mullholland provided a delightful ball for Fitzgerald to find the net with a great strike on the turn.
Manager Dave Wild, who only organised the friendly at short notice, said it was preferable to training and they got out of the game what they wanted.
He explained: “It was an opportunity to work on our shape, structure and style of play.
“I wanted to refresh the forward line from last season and I am pleased with what I have seen so far.
“The harder you work from the front, as we did, it is easier for the players behind them. I am not getting carried away, though, as sterner tests are ahead.”
