Premier League Winter break
Manchester United’s clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this season will be staged on either the weekend of February 8-9 or February 15-16.
This is because the Premier League has introduced a historic first winter break for the forthcoming season which will take place in February 2020.
Manchester City will be hosting West Ham during that round of fixtures which are due to be staged in two groups of five and due to be announced in mid December.
To accommodate this change, the FA has agreed to move the Emirates FA Cup fifth round games to midweek with replays replaced by extra time and penalties in the first tie.
Manchester City have tough top six games around their Champions League games.
United appear to have a kind autumn schedule in terms of the Europa League with games against West Ham, Newcastle United, Norwich City, Brighton, Aston Villa, and Everton coming immediately after their group games this season.
They could also have a relatively kind run to the final of the competition which they won in 2017.
By contrast Manchester City have a tough autumn to test their squad depth with later Champions League group stage match days coming in between all their top six rivals.
They might also face games against Arsenal and United between Round of 16 games before another potentially titanic clash with Liverpool prior to the Quarter Finals if they make it that far.
Streaming giant Amazon Prime have bought the rights to the round of early midweek games between December 3-5 plus the entire Boxing Day schedule.
United will be hitting Newcastle United on Boxing Day while City must travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Manchester City will be contesting the FA Community Shield at Wembley against Liverpool on Sunday August 4, while United will play AC Milan in the International Champions Cup friendly on Saturday August 3 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be used in the Premier League for the first time in the 2019/20 season after successful trials in selected FA Cup and Carabao Cup ties last season.
