Former Monaco coach Laurent Banide has been appointed as Head Coach of Oldham Athletic on a one year deal.

He follows Frankie Bunn, Paul Scholes, and Pete Wild as managers who helmed the Latics during the 2018/19 season.
Scholes in particular was a high profile appointment who only lasted 31 days before resigning while his replacement Pete Wild steered the club to a disappointing 14th place finish last term.
Banide has managerial experience abroad which includes stints at AS Monaco, Al Nasr and Al-Orobah FC.
Most recently, Banide was in charge at Umm Salal SC in Qatar, before leaving in 2018.
Banide enjoyed a playing career at AS Monaco, Marseille, and Strasbourg before moving into a coaching role with Monaco in 1993 where he spent 12 years before being made First Team manager.
Banide will officially start at Oldham on July 1st, 2019 when the players report back for pre-season training.
Chairman Abdallah Lemsagam said: “I’m delighted to welcome Laurent to Oldham Athletic.
“He brings a lot of experience to this club and I’m looking forward to working alongside him the 2019/20 campaign.
“I believe Laurent is a fantastic coach and is the right man to take this club forward going into the new season.”
Banide may have to do without highly rated defender George Edmundson who has been the subject of transfer attention from Glasgow Rangers.
The Latics defender might net the club as much as £1m if he is sold during the summer break but it will remain to be seen how much of a transfer budget that Banide will have to spend when he arrives at the club whether or not Edmundson is sold.
