Midfielder Laura Coombs has become the latest player to sign for Manchester City after agreeing a two-year deal to join the club.
Coombs, 28, spent the last two years with Liverpool where she scored seven times in 74 appearances.
A box-to-box midfielder, Coombs has two England caps and started her career at Arsenal before moving to Chelsea in 2011.
After several loan spells in England and the US (at Los Angeles Strikers) she made a permanent move to Merseyside before signing for Manchester City who are the current holders of the Continental Cup and the SSE Women’s FA Cup.
Commenting on her move to Manchester City, Coombs said:
“I’m really happy and excited to be here and to be a part of such a big club is a huge opportunity.
“City is a top club, it’s been a top club for a few years now, it’s continually competing at the top for leagues and trophies.
“I like to play good football, which also attracted me to City – their style of play and their culture – I think it will be a good fit.
“I’ve played with a couple girls [now at Manchester City] over the last couple of seasons and they sang the praises of both Nick and the Club, so it helped me make my decision to come here.
[Manchester City] is an ambitious club and there are still a lot of things in my career that I want to achieve, and I think being here is going to give me the best opportunity to do that.”
Nick Cushing, manager of City’s double cup winning women’s team, explained:
“Laura is a box-to-box midfielder who plays with a lot of passion.
“She is one of those players that puts in the hard work needed to maintain possession and create chances during games.
“She has the potential to be a top player and we are very excited to have Laura at Manchester City where we feel we can give her the opportunity to play at her highest level.”
