Manchester City today confirmed that Kyle Walker has signed a two-year contract extension to keep him at the club until 2024.
The pacy England full back joined City from Tottenham in July 2017, making 100 appearances in all competitions under Pep Guardiola.
The Yorkshireman has had an impressive haul from the least two years, with two Premier League titles, two League Cups, an FA Cup and a Community Shield to his name.
And his hunger to win more silverware to go alongside unofficial titles of ‘Centurion’ and ‘Fourmidable’ will only have motivated him more.
“I’m thrilled to have signed a new deal,” he said. “Playing for City has been everything I’d hoped it would be and more.
“It was an easy decision. I want to be competing for trophies, playing at the highest level, and I feel I have improved hugely as a player during my time here.
“The Club’s vision – both on and of the pitch – matches mine perfectly and I’m looking forward to spending the next five years here, hopefully winning more silverware.”
Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “We are delighted to have Kyle here for a further two years.
“His strength, speed and ability have been vital to our accomplishments. He is a key member of the squad.
“His experience is invaluable, particularly to the younger members of the team, and his contribution will be crucial in our efforts for continued success.”
The signing of a contract extension for such a highly experienced player as Walker will have some fans looking up quizzically with utility defender Danilo used sparingly last term.
Juventus full back Joao Cancelo, 25, has also been heavily linked with City in recent weeks.
Walker will now be spending the next five years at City until the age of 34 but the key to him staying could be something as simple as counting as a locally trained player for City’s Champions League squad list.
