Manchester United have completed their first signing of the close season with winger Daniel James arriving from Swansea City.
James, 21, will become United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing as the permanent manager and joins on a five year deal with the option of a further year for a fee of £15m.
He might not be the high profile big name, big money signing that some fans expect the Reds to sign – Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale seems to have been ruled out by United.
But there does appear to be a consistent theme this summer at Old Trafford in the absence of a Director of Football.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to be pursuing a policy of signing exciting up and coming talent, and the draw of Old Trafford certainly seems to have helped in landing the youngster who very nearly joined Leeds United in January.
James said: “Every kid grows up wanting to play for Manchester United.”
“I’m very proud to join the biggest football club in the world.
“This is a new and exciting chapter in my life and I can’t wait to get started.
“Thank you to everyone who has shown faith in me. The hard work starts now!”
The Welsh winger, who is comfortable on the right flank and up front as well as his favoured left flank, comes with high praise from his international manager Ryan Giggs.
United legend Giggs said: “I’ve probably not seen anyone as quick as him in my whole career…”
He added: “That’s a big shout as I’ve played against some quick players.
James has already played against Manchester City in the FA Cup this year and though his team eventually lost, his electrifying pace caught the eye against Pep Guardiola’s men who eventually lifted the trophy in May.
