England striker Nikita Parris has confirmed that she will leave Manchester City this summer after a trophy laden five year spell with the club.
Parris, 25, confirmed the news on Twitter following the conclusion of City’s final Women’s Super League game of the season away to Champions Arsenal in which she was un unused substitute.
She said: “After five years the moment has come, to call time on my career as a Manchester City Women’s player.
“Thanks to the fans for their support over the last 5 years, I’ve given this club everything and won everything domestically possible to win.
“Time for the next chapter.”
And Manchester City thanked her for her years of service, saying on Twitter:
“We would like to thank Nikita Parris and wish her the best of luck in the next phase of her journey.”
The Gunners ended City’s hopes of going unbeaten in the league for the whole of the 2018/19 season with an 88th minute Emma Mitchell goal at Borehamwood today.
Parris initially joined City on loan in 2015, going on to lift the WSL title in 2016 and winning WSL League Cups and Women’s FA Cups in 2016 and 2019.
The former Everton striker celebrated 100 appearances earlier this season in City’s Women’s Champions League game against Atletico Madrid and surpassed Eni Aluko’s WSL record goal haul of 36 league goals in November.
She won the Football Writer’s Association Footballer of the year award this year and will be going to the Women’s World Cup in France this summer after former England captain David Beckham recorded a message announcing her involvement in Phil Neville’s squad.
Her goalscoring form this season propelled City to a second place finish behind eventual Champions Arsenal despite the Blues losing only once this season.
Parris has been linked with a move to join former City team mates Lucy Bronze and Izzy Christiansen at French Champions Lyon.
