Manchester City and England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley has agreed to extend her stay with the Club with a new two-year deal.
Bardsley, 34, joined the club ahead of their inaugural season in the FA Women’s Super League in 2014 and her new deal will run until the end of the 2020/21 season.
During her time with City, Bardsley has won the 2016 FA WSL title, three Continental Cup wins (2014, 2016, and 2019), and two SSE Women’s FA Cup triumphs (2017, 2019).
For the third of those Continental Cup wins, Bardsley saved two Arsenal penalties to see City win the shootout and lift the title.
And Bardsley kept a clean sheet after a first half save in the FA Cup final as City went on to beat West Ham 3-0.
She will also be going to France with the England Women’s team to compete in the Women’s World Cup.
Speaking about her contract extension, Bardsley said:
“I’m really excited to put pen to paper and secure my future here at the Club.
“I’m really proud to be part of this organisation, it means a lot to me to be here.
“The thing I really like about the Club is they do stick to their word… to continually challenge perceptions and raise the bar in women’s football, which is something that’s very close to my heart.
“I’ve had a lot of opportunities, because I’ve been at this Club. I’ve been able to develop myself as a footballer and as a well-rounded person off the back of those opportunities.”
Nick Cushing, Manchester City women’s team manager, said:
“Karen is an incredible person and player.
“Throughout this season, she has produced many important saves for us in big games and we’re absolutely delighted she will remain at Manchester City.
“Her experience and passion for the game is what we need to continue to propel the Club forward on and off the pitch.”
