Young goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck has become the latest Manchester City player to agree a new contract with the club, signing up for two more years.
Roebuck, 19, will extend her stay in Manchester after signing her first professional contract with the club after joining from Sheffield United in January 2018.
Since her arrival, Roebuck has made 42 appearances for City, including a debut in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in October 2017 against Austrian side SKN St Polten.
She was nominated for Save of the Season at the 2018 FA Women’s Super League Awards for a memorable save against Chelsea’s Drew Spence in February 2018 to clinch a clean sheet.
She also received her first senior England cap later that year in a friendly against Austria before making her first senior start in a World Cup warm-up game against Spain in April this year.
Speaking about her contract extension, Roebuck said:
“I’m delighted to have signed a new deal and be here for two more years, it’s an exciting time for the club and I’m glad to be a part of it.
“I never expected [to achieve what I have] in such a short space of time, I never really thought that I’d be in this position…I think I’m in the best place for [my development].
“I’ve been here four years and it’s flown by and…I look where I started and where I’m at at the minute and it’s ridiculous, I never expected to make my England debut.”
Nick Cushing, Manchester City women’s team manager, added:
“At Manchester City, we believe in developing young British talent and we are really proud of Ellie’s development so far.
“She has shown incredible potential to become a top player and we are all looking forward to having her with us for another two years.”
