Janine Beckie and Pauline Bremer have agreed new contracts with Manchester City ahead of the club’s SSE Women’s FA Cup semi final against Chelsea.
Canadian international forward Beckie, 24, arrived from Sky Blue FC in the United States last summer while Germany striker Bremer, 23, arrived the year before from French side Olympique Lyonnais.
Bremer had suffered a long term injury in her first season at City but has scored in City’s Women’s FA Cup win over Watford earlier this year.
Beckie, who is known for scoring the fastest goal in Olympic history, scored City’s winning penalty shootout spot kick in the club’s Continental Cup win over Arsenal having scored six times to help the team reach the final at Bramall Lane.
Speaking about her contract extension, Beckie told CityTV:
“It’s been a busy, fast, first year but I’m so excited to be staying with the Club and couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.
“I’ve really enjoyed the people and the environment and how welcoming it was when I first got here.
“What stands out to me is how much better I’ve gotten in the short time that I’ve been here.
“I’m excited to stay and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
Bremer also expressed her excitement, saying:
“I’m excited to sign a new contract and to continue the journey with Manchester City.
“It’s a really ambitious club, since day one they’ve been promising to fight for every title, and I want to be a part of this team always striving to be at the top and win a lot of titles.
“My first season was not as expected and it was difficult, but I’m back now and I’m really proud that I overcame that huge challenge and it definitely made me stronger.”
On completion of the two new deals, Nick Cushing, Manchester City women’s team manager, commented:
“Pauline and Janine are both top players who have made a real impact on the team since joining Manchester City.
“They’re exceptional players and people and I am looking forward to having them on board going forward.
“Their extensions are a great boost for the whole squad ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, which is a hugely important competition for us.”
