Crystal Palace 1, Manchester United 3
Injury hit Manchester United kept up their amazing start under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by winning a club record eighth away game in a row at Crystal Palace.
Not even Sir Alex Ferguson could boast such a record as Solskjaer continued to make a compelling case to be handed the United job on a permanent basis in the summer.
Romelu Lukaku scored twice and Ashley Young made sure of victory with a late goal after Crystal Palace had pulled one back.
United made three changes after losing players to injury during the 0-0 draw against Liverpool at the weekend and they promptly beat a Palace side that had been unbeaten in six games.
Fred, Alexis Sanchez, and Diogo Dalot came into the side to replace the injured Marcus Rashford (ankle), Ander Herrera (hamstring), and Juan Mata (hamstring).
Tahith Chong and James Garner joined Rashford on the bench.
Luke Shaw carried on his rich vein of form from Saturday and his corner was volleyed over by Lukaku.
Andros Townsend couldn’t convert James McArthur’s square pass from 6 yards out, blazing over.
Townsend tried again with a longer range effort from outside the box that bounced wide but United then made them pay for not taking their chances.
Shaw dribbled his way deep into Palace territory before laying off the ball for Lukaku who, unlike Townsend, didn’t need a second opportunity to bury the ball and open the scoring after 33 minutes.
Jeffrey Schlupp’s header screwed wide after Townsend had put in a great cross for him to rise unmarked as the Eagles continued to pose a threat.
Pogba headed Dalot’s cross over the bar after the break before Lindelof’s header into the six yard box allowed Lukaku to double United’s lead after hooking the ball in from close range after 52 minutes.
Joel Ward briefly brought hope for Palace after he got on the end of Schlupp’s left wing cross in the 66th minute.
But United weren’t in a mood to be held again as Sanchez headed wide.
Max Meyer went close for the home side but it was United to took the points with an 83rd minute goal by Ashley Young from an acute angle on the right to restore the visitors’ two goal lead.
There was even time to blood a youngster for United, with Garner the latest Academy youngster to come off an amazing conveyor belt of talent for the Reds as they closed out the game.
