Huddersfield Town 1, West Ham 1
Huddersfield Town were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal again when West Ham scored a late equaliser to cancel out Alex Pritchard’s early strike.
Pritchard scored the first goal by a Huddersfield Town player after a 726 minute barren spell at the John Smith’s Stadium to put the Terriers into the lead.
West Ham just couldn’t deal with the Terrier’s counter pressing in the first half but Town were disrupted by an injury blow.
The Terriers lost Chris Lowe after he was challenged by Fabian Balbuena late in the first half.
The Terriers hit the woodwork twice and tested Lucasz Fabianski several more times but paid for their poor luck in front of goal when Felipe Anderson equalised late in the game after they failed to clear their lines.
And Laurent Depoitre failed to score with two injury time chances when the chances presented themselves.
Town named an unchanged lineup after recording their first Premier League win of the season on Monday against Fulham.
Town’s winner against Fulham on Monday was an unfortunate own goal by Tim Fosu-Mensah and they hit the woodwork early on after Steve Mounie’s header was tipped onto the crossbar by Lucasz Fabianski.
After just six minutes, Pritchard became the first Town player to score a Premier League goal at home for 12 hours and six minutes since Tom Ince netted against Watford on April 14th, nine games ago.
He was given too much space to turn and shoot after exchanging passes with Jonathan Hogg before shooting through Declan Rice’s legs meaning Fabianski didn’t see the bobbling ball trundling goalwards until too late.
It was a comical series of errors by West Ham starting from an attempt to play the ball out by Fabianski to attempts to play through the terriers press which went seriously wrong for the Hammers.
Philip Billing’s looping cross/shot cannoned off the back post with Fabianski stranded after 16 minutes and Aaron Mooy also forced a low save from Fabianski from a 25 yard free kick moments later.
Chris Lowe will be out for weeks after serious shoulder injury
Chris Lowe was tripped by Fabian Balbuena, and the German had to be stretchered off before the break with suspected dislocated shoulder or ligament injury after an awkward fall.
Javier Hernandez replaced Grady Diangana at the break for West Ham and he headed onto the roof of the net after 48 minutes with the improved Hammers having a focal point to their attack.
Robert Snodgrass’ corner was flicked on by Pedro Obiang but evaded Hernandez at the back post as the Terriers had to weather a Hammers resurgence in the second half.
Town continued to carve out chances with Pritchard the main recipient but he couldn’t convert and was replaced by Isaac Mbenza after tiring in the 72ndminute.
West Ham equalised after Town failed to fully clear a siege with Hogg blocking a shot by substitute Michail Antonio only for Felipe Anderson to stab the rebound home.
Lossl twice made saves from a Hammers corner as the visitors pushed for a winner with Diop’s header cleared by Aaron Mooy off the line.
Erik Durm shot wide as Town could also have won it in an entertaining last few minutes when West Ham went down to ten men in the last few minutes after final substitute Ryan Fredericks limped off soon after coming on.
Both Durm and Terence Kongolo tried to cross for substitute Laurent Depoitre in injury time but the big Belgian messed up both chances to secure Town’ first back to back Premier League wins since February.
