YEOVIL TOWN 0, OLDHAM ATHLETIC 0
Dan Gardner came within inches of giving Oldham Athletic victory in their Sky Bet League Two game at Yeovil Town.
The midfielder struck the frame of the goal as Latics came close to registering their first win on the road in 2018/19 season.
In a game of few chances, Gardner came as close an any player to breaking the stalemate at Huish Park.
Injuries to Giles Coke and Sam Surridge meant manager Frank Bunn recalled Christopher Missilou in midfield and Ishmael Miller up front.
Yeovil put pressure on the Latics’ back four right from the first whistle, but the defence, marshalled by Captain Peter Clarke, coped with relative ease.
The hosts created the first opening when Wesley McDonald took the ball off Rob Hunt before finding Diallang Jaiyesimi with space in the box, but Missilou got back to make a terrific block to save the day.
Leicester City loanee goalkeeper Daniel Iversen was called into action from the best chance of the first half, as Carl Dickinson whipped in a free kick from the right onto the head of Yoann Arquin.
The ball was heading into the bottom left corner but the Danish stopper diving to his right managed to tip it around the post.
Jaiyesimi was the major goal threat the Glovers had and he went close after taking on two defenders before hitting the side netting as the game remained stalemate.
Latics had the best chance of the game minutes into the second half when Gardner made a clever run into the box and saw his shot cannon back off the post.
Yeovil created another chance from a set piece as Dickinson found Omar Sowunmi all alone in the box, but the tall central defender completely messed up the free header from inside the six-yard box.
Jose Baxter was introduced at half time and he only really had one half-chance when Rob Hunt’s cross just evaded his head.
