Manchester United’s legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson has shared his gratitude for the support that he received during his recovery from a life threatening illness in May.
Sir Alex is recovering from emergency surgery following a brain haemorrhage. The bleeding, in or around his brain, could have killed the 76-year-old Scot but he has spent time in recovery following the life-saving surgery and paid tribute to the medical staff who helped him.
Sir Alex said: “Hello. Just a quick message, first of all the thank the medical staff at the Macclesfield, Salford Royal, and Alexandra hospitals.
“Believe me, without those people who gave me such great care, I would not be sitting here today. So thank you from me and my family, thank you very much.
“It’s made me feel so humble, as have all the messages from around the world, wishing me the best. The good wishes resonate very, very strongly with me.
“Thank you for the support that you’ve given me.
“Lastly, I’ll be back later in the season to watch the team. In the meantime, all the best to Jose and the players.
“Thank you very much.”
Ferguson retired as Manchester United manager in 2013 having led the Reds to 38 trophies in his 26 years in charge of the club and is the most successful manager in the history of the British game.
Manchester United are currently on a tour of the United States in a pre-season as they prepare to challenge champions Manchester City for the Premier League title in the coming season.
The Reds have so far confirmed just three incoming signings in Fred, Diogo Dalot, and Lee Grant, and but have been linked with Leicester and England star Harry Maguire who had an outstanding World Cup in Russia.
They were recently hit by the withdrawal of Anthony Martial from the squad to attend the birth of his second child. It is understood that United manager Jose Mourinho is willing to sell the French forward to bring balance to the United forward line with a right sided winger – Ante Rebic of Eintracht Frankfurt has been linked.
