Manchester United have agreed terms for the transfer of Daley Blind to Ajax.
A further announcement will be made in due course but the 28 year old utility player, seems set to rejoin the Amsterdam club where he started as a youth product before joining the Reds four years ago.
Blind was used in midfield and across the defence by Louis van Gaal but fell out of favour under current Reds boss Jose Mourinho.
Another United player who won’t initially be joining the Reds on their tour of the United States is Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean was reportedly refused entry to the USA for United’s pre-season tour due to visa issues relating to Sanchez’ acceptance of a prison sentence for tax fraud in Spain in February.
A United spokesperson said: “Alexis Sanchez did not travel due to a personal administrative issue.”
Sanchez struck a deal with the Spanish treasury to repay £885,000 from his time as a Barcelona player in 2012-13 and avoided jail after accepting a 16-month prison sentence which meant he did not have to go to prison because the punishment was less than two years.
Sanchez will hope to be able to join the rest of the squad if he secures a visa waiver which will allow him to rejoin his team mates and talks are apparently ongoing with the US embassy to try and resolve the issue.
Both Manchester United and Manchester City are without a string of key players who are having a three week break from football after their exertions in the World Cup.
City’s Phil Foden is just one of around ten players who will miss England’s defence of their U19 European Championships title as the tournament gets underway in Finland because they are away with their parent club’s pre-seaason tours.
City missed out on the signing of Napoli’s Jorginho but could see him again very soon after the Italian joined Chelsea to link up again with his former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri who replaced Chelsea boss Antonio Conte a day after he was sacked last Friday.
