Manchester City reserve goalkeeper Angus Gunn has signed for Southampton in a five-year deal believed to be worth £13.5m.
Gunn, 22, is the son of Norwich City legend Bryan Gunn and was impressive on loan as goalkeeper at the Canaries in the Championship last season but with Ederson firmly entrenched in the number one spot and Claudio Bravo about to start the final year of a lucrative contract it was decided that he should move on in a bid to gain top flight experience.
Gunn trained with England before the World Cup and will challenge for a first team starting role with Fraser Forster and Alex McCarthy who were both used at St Mary’s last season as the Saints narrowly avoided relegation.
The deal for Gunn is believed to be worth £10m up front with a further £3.5m in add ons to City who are believed to have inserted sell-on and buy-back clauses for the exciting youth prospect.
With the departure of Gunn, Daniel Grimshaw has been promoted to third choice goalkeeper for City as the squad returned to pre-season training with boss Pep Guardiola ahead of the tour to the United States this summer.
City midfielder, Oleksandr Zinchenko, played at left back during an injury crisis last season and is the subject of a £16m bid from Wolves which the club are believed to have accepted.
Zinchenko, 21, reported back for pre-season training amid rumours of a bid by Newcastle United to match Wolves for the Ukraine international who must now make up his mind about his future after talks with Guardiola.
Another City youth player, Manu Garcia, has signed a loan deal with French Ligue 1 side Toulouse FC for the forthcoming season.
Garcia, 20, spent last season on loan at NAC Breda in the Netherlands having helped them reach promotion to the Dutch top flight during the latter half of the 2016/17 season.
City confirmed the arrival of Riyad Mahrez and were heavily linked with Napoli midfielder Jorginho but, with Chelsea potentially beating them to the signing of the Italian international at the last hurdle, have been understood to have begun talks for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
Kovacic, 24, is on World Cup duty with Croatia in Russia but isn’t yet trusted in a midfield containing Real team mate Luka Modric and Barcelona rival Ivan Rakitic – but he could yet face and England side containing some City stars if deployed from the bench in their semi final match in Moscow.
