STOCKPORT COUNTY 1, DARLINGTON 1
Stockport County eyes were on the Vanarama National League North play-offs as they were held at home by Darlington in their last league game of the campaign.
Manager Jim Gannon made seven changes as his side, already assured of a top-seven spot, preferring to rest key players like top scorer Jason Oswell, striker Rhys Turner and keeper Ben Hinchliffe.
The many changes clearly affected County’s fluency as it was a disjointed affair at Edgeley Park.
County could have taken an early lead when Matty Warburton’s effort was cleared off the line and they had several other decent openings.
But it was the mid-table Quakers who took a 32nd minute lead after County claimed Michael Clarke was fouled in the build up.
With centre-back Clarke in the centre of the field clutching his face, Darlington broke and Stephen Thompson found the net with a low shot.
County lacked a cutting edge and their equaliser midway through the second half came from an unlikely source, right-back Dan Cowan.
He made a forward foray and found the net with a terrific low drive from outside the box.
