SWANSEA CITY 0, MANCHESTER CITY 4
Manchester City moved out on their own in the record books with a 15th consecutive Premier League win this season – against basement strugglers Swansea City.
David Silva scored twice, and Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero chipped in one each as City raced into the 3-0 lead after just 52 minutes allowing them to take the foot off the gas until a late fourth goal killed off the Swans.
It was a return to previous form of sorts after City had four recent grinding 2-1 results for Pep Guardiola’s side with the most recent a fully deserved 2-1 win at Old Trafford in the Manchester derby.
City were completely dominant in their Premier League clash at Swansea, with David Silva opening the scoring from close range with a back heel after a cross by Bernardo Silva in the 27th minute.
Kevin De Bruyne’s curling low free kick made it two after 34 minutes going straight through a crowd as City were rampant in the opening half with his sixth of the season.
David Silva had been excellent and it didn’t take long for the little Spaniard to net his second of the game – lifting the ball over the keeper from close range following a move involving Raheem Sterling.
Silva’s 52nd minute goal, his fourth in his last three games – and his fifth of the season – was the signal for City to take the foot off the gas and Fernandinho, who was one booking away from missing the Spurs game at the weekend, was given the rest of the night off as Yaya Toure came on to anchor the midfield.
Swansea briefly threatened a goal when Ederson had to make a save after a Ki Sung Yeung shot deflected off Fabian Delph.
Oleksandr Zinchenko came on for his Premier League debut to replace Delph while De Bruyne was also rested with Ilkay Gundogan coming on to see out the game for City.
City finished with a vintage combination, with Toure picking out Sergio Aguero who raced into the Swansea defence and picked his spot from an acute angle after leaving Alfie Mawson in his wake – the Argentine’s 13th of the season.
There was even time for some heroics from Nicolas Otamendi whose double block denied the Swans even a consolation goal.
