Concern for Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero tonight was such that City issued a press release to assuage fan fears ahead of the Premier League trip to Leicester after reports emerged that he had passed out at half time in Argentina’s defeat against Nigeria in the Russian city of Krasnodar tonight.
Aguero, 29, who recently became City’s all-time record goalscorer, was reported to have ‘fainted’ in the dressing room at half time according to Argentine media but this was quickly denied by City’s official website which reassured fans by saying:
“Sergio Aguero has been cleared by doctors to return to Manchester as planned after suffering a dizzy spell during Argentina’s 4-2 defeat by Nigeria in Krasnodar today.
“Sergio never lost consciousness, and was taken to hospital for precautionary medical checks. He will be assessed by the club’s medical team ahead of this weekend’s Premier League trip to Leicester City.”

TyC Sports had earlier reported that Aguero had ‘fainted’ in the dressing room at half time but later issued an update along with a video that seemed to show the City striker making his way to the team bus apparently fit and well after the game.
Aguero had earlier scored his second goal in consecutive games to put Argentina 2-0 up before the break after Ever Banega opened the scoring but had to be subbed off at half time after being unable to continue.
The Nigerians hit back just before the break with a goal from former City striker Kelechi Iheanacho before Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi struck either side of Brian Idowu in the second half to turn the game on its head as the Nigerians ran out 4-2 winners on the night.
Aguero has had an eventful two months with a remarkably short injury layoff following a rib injury sustained in a taxi crash in Amsterdam in September but with a packed winter schedule coming up City boss Pep Guardiola may have to rotate more of his players than he initially planned.
