SWANSEA CITY 0, MANCHESTER UNITED 4
Three goals in under four minutes sealed victory in South Wales for Manchester United after Swansea City had held them at bay for most of the second half after conceding late in the first half.
Jose Mourinho’s side had to wait until the last ten minutes before the game was made safe at Swansea but they recorded a second successive 4 goal victory in the Premier League for the first time since David Moyes was in charge at Old Trafford.
Mourinho said after the game that “there was no need to close the door” after taking the lead with their hosts only mustering one shot on goal – dominated by a United side who peppered the Swansea defence with 17 shots on goal (eight on target).
Without Gylfi Sigurdsson’s influence – the Icelandic playmaker had scored three times in his last three games at Old Trafford – Swansea made little threat to the United goal but they proved had to break down.
It took till almost half time before United broke the Swans resistance when Eric Bailly reacted first after Paul Pogba’s header had come off the crossbar to stab the Reds into the lead – his first goal for United.
Both side had earlier hit the woodwork as United had toiled against their well-drilled hosts with tempers flaring after Pogba escaped a second yellow card within the space of three minutes under close attention from Tom Carroll.
With ten minutes to go the Reds finally broke the Swansea block again when Romelu Lukaku hit his third goal in two league games for United.
The flood gates opened and Pogba stroked in United’s third, 78 seconds after Lukaku’s goal with Anthony Martial completing the rout less than 4 minutes after Lukaku had effectively put the game beyond Swansea.
The final score was hard on the Swans but the result is likely to leave the Reds on top of the Premier League for the second week in a row.
