The Football League has confirmed the 16 ties that comprise Round Three of the 2017/18 Carabao Cup – also known as the EFL/League Cup – and current holders Manchester United will begin the defence of their title with a home tie against Nigel Clough’s Burton Albion.
It’s Burton’s first trip to Old Trafford in 11 years after a 2006 FA Cup third round replay took the then-non-league club to the Theatre of Dreams when they held a United team featuring Gerard Pique, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney coming off the bench, to a goalless draw.
Formerly known as the EFL Cup (or more commonly the League Cup), the draw took place at 4.15am BST in Beijing this morning and included the seven clubs involved in European competition this season.
Manchester City will travel to the Midlands to take on West Bromwich Albion with reports continuing to link the Blues to Baggies defender and ex-United player Jonny Evans.
Eight-time winners Liverpool face a trip to former Premier League champions Leicester City while Chelsea will welcome Nottingham Forest to Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal host Doncaster Rovers while their North London rivals Tottenham will welcome Barnsley or Derby County to Wembley.
In addition, Crystal Palace have an early opportunity to avenge their 3-0 opening day Premier League defeat to Huddersfield Town. There will be a south coast clash as AFC Bournemouth welcome fellow Premier League side Brighton.
