STALYBRIDGE CELTIC 1, OLDHAM ATHLETIC 4
Oldham Athletic began their pre-season build up with a comfortable win at Evo Stik League, premier division side Stalybridge Celtic.
And there was a goal for Darius Osei on his return to Bower Fold – this game was part of his transfer package in joining Latics last summer.
Manager John Sheridan left most of his senior players on the sidelines as the squad was a mixture of squad members, triallists and the odd youngster.
Triallist Ryan Leonard fired Latics ahead after 34 minutes with a shot in off the upright and Tope Obadeyi doubled the lead immediately at the second attempt as his initial effort was saved by keeper Lewis King.
Half-time substitute Ousmane Fane made it 3-0 within six minutes of making his entrance with a 25-yard effort that keeper King could only help on its way into the roof of the net.
Celtic triallist Zak Thomas – he was at Cowdenbeath last season- reduced the deficit, but the three-goal margin was quickly restored as Osei cut in from the left before slotting home a low shot.
New signing Dan Gardner, who came on at half time, would have added a fifth goal had King not superbly saved his shot.
Celtic could have added to their tally as in the second half Aaron Burns and a triallist both struck the frame of the goal.
Among the second-half substitutes was Jay Sheridan, son of the manager.
