Manchester City Women have moved to strengthen their squad ahead of the forthcoming Women’s Super League 1 season by signing Danish defender Mie Jans from Brondby IF.
Jans, a Denmark international since November 2013, will link up with City on July 1 but has already visited the City Football Academy Stadium where she played for Brondby against City in last season’s Women’s Champions League.
The news that Jans, 23, has joined City comes just a day after her new captain Steph Houghton committed her long-term future to the club.
Jans said: “The set up at Manchester City Women is unparalleled and I am looking forward to growing as a player and taking advantage of the facilities and resources available at the City Football Academy when I join them.
“I really enjoyed playing at the Academy Stadium last year and I’m excited to step onto the pitch next season wearing a Manchester City shirt alongside my new teammates who have already achieved so much as a squad.”
Nick Cushing, Head Coach of Manchester City Women, added:
“Mie is a talented defender and her passion and drive to keep on improving is exactly what we want from a player at Manchester City.
“We are confident Mie will be a great addition to the team for next season when we will be looking to retain our Women’s Super League title and challenge for even more success on and off the pitch.”
City will be defending all three domestic titles next season, and hoping to improve on a second place finish in the one-off Spring Series earlier this year when they were pipped to that title by Chelsea Ladies on goal difference.
They also reached the semi-finals of the Women’s Champions League for the first time, missing out on a place in the final after defeat to eventual winners Lyon.
