Wayne Rooney has been left out of the England squad for June’s games against Scotland and France.
Rooney, 31, has 119 England caps but has only started 15 league matches for Manchester United this season and only came on in the final minute of the Reds’ 2-0 Europa League win against Ajax.
After the Europa League win Rooney’s manager, Jose Mourinho, expressed his hope that Rooney would stay at the club, adding that there would be a role for him.
Rooney’s United team mate Marcus Rashford has been included in the senior squad and will miss out on the Under-21 team’s European Championship campaign in Poland.
Spurs striker Harry Kane features in a Southgate squad for the first time after being absent from all six of the current England manager’s squads through injury.
Burnley defender Michael Keane, a possible summer transfer target for the Reds, misses out through injury.
Ex-Manchester City defender Trippier, and relegated Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson are the only squad members with no senior England caps.
The squad will travel to Hampden Park for the World Cup qualifier against Scotland on June 10 before travelling to France fo a friendly on June 13.
England are top of Group F with 13 points from five games while Scotland are fourth with seven points.
