MAN CITY WOMEN 0, ARSENAL LADIES 1
All-conquering Manchester City women’s hopes of being crowned FA WSL Spring Series champions were dealt a blow following their home defeat by Arsenal Ladies.
City, who suffered their first domestic defeat since April 2016 (in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea), would have gone top of the table had they won.
But defeat to a late goal from Jordan Nobbs leaves City third behind leaders Liverpool and Chelsea.
City were again without the suspended Carli Lloyd while Marie Hourihan replaced the injured Karen Bardsley in goal.
While City enjoyed more possession in the opening period, they were let down by wayward finishing as a number of clear-cut chances were wasted.
And Arsenal had the better of the chances as Dutch woman Danielle Van De Donk had an effort cleared off the line by Megan Campbell while Beth Mead had two good openings, but failed to find the net.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with City still wasteful in front of goal.
And the misses came back to bite City as Arsenal took the lead 15 minutes from time as Nobbs curled in a free kick from 25 yards.
