Manchester City have announced finalised squad numbers for the 2016/2017 season.
With several players leaving on loan on transfer deadline day, two new players got allocated recently vacated numbers.
Claudio Bravo was handed the number one shirt, which vacated by Joe Hart who moved to Torino on loan yesterday.
Ilkay Gundogan got the number eight shirt vacated by Samir Nasri who signed for Sevilla on loan.
Other players to leave the Etihad yesterday included Wilfried Bony, who left for Stoke City, Eliaquim Mangala, who left for Valencia, and Jason Denayer, who left for Sunderland.
All deals were on a loan basis.
Final farewell from Joe Hart and Samir Nasri?
Although both Hart and Nasri had left the club on loan, they subsequently posted statements on social media which looked very much like they didn’t expect to return to the Etihad.
Joe Hart made a statement on his official Instagram account. He said:
“I just wanted to take this opportunity to address all the amazing Manchester City fans who have been so good to me.
“It’s been a difficult few weeks but that will never cloud the amazing journey and experience your great club has given to me.
“From the moment I signed in 2006, the club and its fans have given me football and life experiences I could never have imagined and I am so thankful for that.
“Football is a crazy game and, due to circumstances, I am now moving on to another chapter of my career and I am very grateful that Torino has given me this opportunity to play for their great club.
“But the feelings I felt during the recent Steaua Bucharest game will live with me forever.
“You can’t buy that and I will struggle to replicate them. So thank you for that and all the amazing memories.”
