The fee is believed to be in the region of £37m plus add-ons which could see the final price rising above £46m.
The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract after leaving Schalke 04 to become City’s fifth signing of the summer and it was announced that he had taken the number 19 shirt.
Sane told City’s official website that City manager Pep Guardiola was a big factor in his decision to move to the Etihad.
He said: “He convinced me to come here and that I can continue to progress. I know I will learn a lot under him.
“I followed Pep at Barcelona and at Bayern where he achieved a lot and worked really well with young players.”
Sane admitted it might take a bit of time for him to get used to the Premier League, adding: “There’s a different style of play but I think I can adapt very quickly.”
The youngster had previously played for his former club’s U18 team in Manchester against City’s EDS team during a Youth Champions League fixture at City’s Football Academy Stadium.
Attacking competition
Sane is seen as a flexible player who could fit in across the front-line but is best cutting inside on his favoured left foot from the right flank.
The competition across City’s attacking ranks is bound to increase with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Samir Nasri, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Jesus Navas, and perhaps new arrivals Nolito and Oleksandr Zinchenko competing to provide service to nominal frontman Sergio Aguero.
The youthful forward was born into a sporting family. His father is former Senegal footballer Souleymane Sane, and his mother is former German rhythmic gymnast champion Regina Weber.
He joins his fellow German International Ilkay Gundogan who signed for City earlier in the summer.

City have also signed Nolito, Zinchenko and Aaron Mooy during the current transfer window.
Guardiola’s transfer dealings may not be over yet, with reports of talks with Everton to sign England defender John Stones.
There have also been stories about a possible move for Gabriel Jesus of Palmeiras – reportedly the next Neymar.
