OLDHAM ATHLETIC 0, HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 2
Manager Stephen Robinson was delighted with his new-look side’s display for an hour as they were beaten by two late Huddersfield Town goals in their opening pre-season friendly at SportsDirect.com Park.
Goals from Harry Bunn and Jack Payne ensured Championship club Town emerged victors, but Latics can feel satisfied as their hastily-assembled side performed admirably.
Robinson gave an insight as to how his side will play operating 3-5-2 with Josh Law and Jamie Reckford playing wing backs and attacking at every opportunity.
It was a lively opening from both sides with former Latis’ keeper Joel Coleman called into action mid-half to turn a Law free kick over the crossbar.
And though Huddersfield had a number of chances, Latics’ keeper Connor Ripley didn’t have a serious shot to save.
Latics made three changes at the break, and one of these, Lee Croft quickly forced a decent save from Coleman.
And substitute keeper Chris Kettings quickly made an impression making two excellent saves.
Latics made a raft of further changes after an hour, and that is when the game began to tilt the way of the visitors, though Huddersfield had also made eight changes by this time.
The deadlock was broken after 72 minutes when a low cross from Jordan Williams was converted by Bunn, a former Latics’ loanee.
And they sealed victory in the last minute when Payne headed past Kettings.
