Zlatan Ibrahimovic confirms move to the Premier League
Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has announced on his official Instagram account that he would be joining Manchester United on a one year deal following his departure from Paris Saint Germain.
Ibrahimovic has to undergo a medical on Friday before he signs his contract but the supremely confident forward chose to announce his imminent arrival at Old Trafford by saying on Instagram: “Time to let the world know. My next destination is Manchester United.”
His unique turns of phrase and confident swagger, little seen at Old Trafford since Eric Cantona was in his pomp, will add a little star dust to the Premier League.
His taste for dramatic goals could well help propel the Reds back into next season’s title race.
The Swedish striker had earlier retired from international duty after 1-0 defeats to Belgium and Italy and a 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland in this summer’s European Championships.
The 34-year-old rejoins Reds manager Jose Mourinho, with whom he spent a season at Inter Milan in 2008-09, and becomes United’s second signing of the summer after defender Eric Bailly joined from Villarreal.
United offer Henrikh Mkhitaryan shirts on Megastore website by mistake?
United may yet announce a third signing shortly after reports emerged that the Reds had made an improved offer for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Hints that the 27-year-old Armenian’s signing could be close after Mkhitaryan Adidas shirts were on offer on United’s Megastore website for a brief time before they were removed from the site later.
With United having a surfeit of playmakers, it seems increasingly likely that United will be moving some players on with the likes of Juan Mata and Ander Herrera’s futures under the microscope if Mkhitaryan arrives at Old Trafford within the next few days.
