MAN CITY WOMEN 1, LIVERPOOL LADIES 1
Manchester City remain top of the table and unbeaten in the Women’s Super League, despite being held at home by Liverpool FC.
Liverpool had ended City’s run of six straight wins at the start to their season in their last match, and again proved their nemesis in the return fixture.
And having not conceded a goal in their first seven league games, Liverpool finally ended that remarkable run at City’s Academy Stadium.
Little over thee minutes had been played when Rosie White wriggled free in the penalty area to fire Liverpool ahead.
And the Merseysiders were full value for their 1-0 interval lead as Caroline Weir also hit the crossbar.
City brought on Nikita Parris at the break and she played a pivotal part in the second-half fightback.
Parris had City’s first on-target goal attempt after 53 minutes forcing keeper Siobhan Chamberlain into a diving save.
And Parris provided the assist for City’s equaliser midway through the second period as her low cross was converted by goal poacher Jane Ross from inside the six-yard box, the Scot’s fourth league goal of the campaign.
Chamberlain prevented City from completing a comeback pulling off a string of terrific saves to deny Dutch international debutant Tessel Middag, Jill Scott, Beattie and Ross in the fourth of five added minutes at the end.
Yet in stoppage time, Liverpool almost snatched victory when substitute Niamh Charles burst through on goal only to see her shot saved by the legs of keeper Karen Bardsley.
