Vincent Kompany joines Sergio Aguero, Kelechi Iheanacho and EDS player Brandon Barker alongside primary school kids for City in the Community to test their skills
City captain Vincent Kompany was involved in a special school sports “Roadshow” today and he joined fellow squad members Sergio Aguero, Kelechi Iheanacho and EDS player Brandon Barker on the indoor pitch at the City Football Academy.
The Roadshow was originally launched in 2014 and gives children the opportunity to participate in passing drills, fitness challenges and using specialised equipment to have their shooting and dribbling power and accuracy measured.
Students from City in the Community’s partner primary schools including St Edmunds (which Barker attended), Ashbury Meadow and Crossacres put their skills to the test on the indoor pitch at City Football Academy.
Kompany, Aguero, Iheanacho and Barker each captained a team of young people to battle it out against each other on different equipment at the roadshow with the aim of scoring the most points and being crowned Etihad Roadshow champions.
Kompany, who is nearing full fitness after just nine minutes of first team football in three months, was pleased to be able to take time out from his recovery to participate in the project.
He said: “Football plays an important role in our local community.”
“It’s brilliant that initiatives like this exist. City in the Community have a real ambition to engage with as many local young people as possible and with the support of Etihad Airways, they are doing such brilliant work. Today has been a lot of fun and it’s nice to see so many schools taking part.”
Team Aguero were crowned the eventual winners and featured students from Crossacres Primary School in Wythenshawe.
City in the Community coaches travel across Manchester visiting 75 schools and engaging with 14,000 primary school students during this academic year.
